Funicular dos Guindais

The Elevator, or Funicular dos Guindais was originally inaugurated in 1891 built by engineer Raul Mesnier to connect the area of the river to Batalha. After two years, a serious accident put an end to its activity, despite the engineer's efforts to redo the project.

With the urban rehabilitation projects of Porto 2001, a new funicular was designed for the same place, being that of the original only exists the building of the engine room.

A century later, in 2004, a more modern funicular adapted to the current uses is inaugurated.
